Architectural designer / audio-visual artist
working in spatial design, sound and emerging technologies

Emmy Bacharach is a spatial designer with an interest in sound and emerging technologies, currently working between architectural practice, teaching and multimedia installations. Emmy tutors at the Design Academy Eindhoven, co-leading Studio Digital Native with Ibiye Camp and Rhiarna Dhaliwal, and is a founding member of design collective Xcessive Aesthetics. Emmy studied Architecture at the University of Cambridge (2015) and MA Architecture at the Royal College of Art (2019). Her work uses soundscapes and worldbuilding to explore contested geologies and infrastructures across physical and digital space, with an emphasis on empathy.

Her project ‘Proxy Architecture’, shown at the Volumetric Ecologies showcase at Goldsmiths Digital Studios, immerses the viewer in a virtual world, a floating city composed of digital fragments of Istanbul, speculating on the collective potential of virtual space. During her 2019 artist residency in Istanbul with the Connect for Creativity program, Emmy developed the film and VR work ‘Stream of Consciousness’ which was exhibited at Furtherfield Gallery, London and at the Istanbul Design Biennale.
