Sonic Urbanism explores the spatial implications of Detroit techno, an African American genre of electronic dance music developed in the 1980s in Detroit, USA. Investigating the urban, social and economic characteristics of Detroit and the context in which techno music developed, the project studies the relationship between sound and space in the city and the potential for music to redefine spatial and urban experience.

This is an ongoing research project realised so far as a series of interviews, sound studies and a written thesis.
